The district mining and geology department has demanded a payment of 25.43 crore as a penalty from the developers of the Hayagriva Villas and Farms Project, including former Visakhapatnam MP M.V.V. G.Satyanarayana and his associate Venkateswarulu. This penalty was imposed for unauthorized excavation in survey no. 92 of Yendada, Visakhapatnam. A formal notification issued on Friday instructed the developers to settle the amount within 15 days of receiving the notice.

Right from its inception, the project has been embroiled in controversy. The state government allocated 12.5 acres in Yendada for the establishment of orphanages and homes for the elderly. As per the terms of allocation, 10% of the land was designated for orphanages and elderly shelters, 30% for infrastructure like roads and parks, and the remaining land for constructing cost-effective old-age homes.

Nonetheless, Desam state president Palla Srinivasa Rao, Jana Sena leader, and GVMC corporator P.L.N. Murthy Yadav have raised objections, stating that Hayagriva Villas deviated from the original allocation guidelines by developing luxury housing and villas. Murthy Yadav urged the government to reclaim the land due to multiple violations observed in the project.
