Character.Al’s co-founders are set to embark on a significant partnership with Google, enabling the tech giant to utilize the artificial intelligence (AI) technology developed by the innovative start-up. Character AI, recognized for its chatbots capable of emulating a diverse range of personalities, made the announcement through a blog post. Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas, the founders, alongside select members of their research team, will be joining Google under Alphabet, as confirmed by the company. Serving as the interim chief executive officer of the start-up will be Dominic Perella, who previously held the position of Character.AI’s general counsel. The California-based venture disclosed plans for a non-exclusive agreement with Google concerning its advanced language model technology. Despite this collaboration, Character.AI assures its continuity, emphasizing that most of its skilled team will persist in enhancing the Character.AI product and catering to its expanding user base. This deal signifies a return to familiar grounds for Character.Al’s founders, Shazeer and De Freitas, who have previously been part of the Google workforce.
