Five leaders from the Telugu Desam Party are vying for nomination as the party’s candidate in the upcoming bye-election for the vacant Legislative Council seat in the Visakhapatnam Local Authorities’ constituency. The seat became available after Ch. Vamsi Krishna Yadav stepped down prior to the general elections for the AP Legislative Assembly. The election authorities have released a notification for the bye-election to the MLC seat in Vizag, scheduled for August 30.
The TDP contenders for the seat include former MLAs Gandi Babji and Peela Govind, Anakapalli parliamentary party president Battula Tataya, Madugula assembly segment in-charge P.V.G. Kumar, and Dileep Chakravarthy. Discussions were held among the NDA alliance partners to finalize the list of candidates at the residence of TD state president Palla Srinivasa Rao in Gajuwaka on Monday evening.
Attendees at the meeting included speaker Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu, MLAs Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy, Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, Panchakarla Ramesh Babu, K.S.N. Raju, P. Vishnu Kumar Raju, Ch. Vamsi Krishna Yadav, Kolla Lalitha Kumari, MLC Duvvarapu Rama Rao, and north Andhra TD in-charge Damacharla Satya. The leaders evaluated each candidate’s potential and financial backing. All five aspirants have pledged to fund their own election campaigns. The alliance partners Jana Sena and BJP have decided not to field their own candidates.
