The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has initiated a new campaign aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and its adverse effects on both individuals and society. Under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan program, a rally took place in the city over the weekend.

During the event, District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad delivered a message urging young people to avoid drug usage and instead concentrate on shaping a better future. He stressed the grave repercussions of addiction, labeling cannabis as a widespread issue that fuels criminal activities. Prasad called on students to take on the role of change agents and actively engage in the fight against this problem.

Furthermore, Prasad highlighted the importance of heightened vigilance concerning the distribution and transportation of cannabis, assuring the public of the government’s dedication to eliminating this issue. At the rally, City Police Commissioner Sankhabrata Bhagchi emphasized that addiction extends beyond cannabis to encompass all forms of intoxicants. He highlighted the escalating crisis of drug use and trafficking at a national level.

The Commissioner cautioned young individuals against perceiving substance abuse as a trend, emphasizing that many who fall into addiction later regret their choices and acknowledge the negative impact on their families. He noted an increasing number of parents seeking guidance, emphasizing the critical need for assistance and support in addressing this pressing issue.
