The handlooms and textiles minister, S. Savita, announced on Monday that the state government of Andhra Pradesh is set to host handloom exhibitions throughout the region to boost the sales of handloom products. During a recent visit to the handloom expo at Maris Stella College Auditorium in Vijayawada, Savita underlined the government’s dedication to ensuring year-round employment and higher incomes for weavers. In order to achieve this goal, the government will utilize e-commerce platforms to promote handloom goods online and provide weavers with training on contemporary design trends.

With a focus on cutting out middlemen and creating direct sales avenues for weavers, the minister plans to hold handloom exhibitions at a statewide level. This strategic move is anticipated to significantly increase weavers’ earnings. Due to the overwhelming response from the public, the ongoing handloom expo in Vijayawada, initially slated to end on August 20, has been extended by a week. The event was inaugurated on August 7 by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

During her visit to the expo, Minister Savita showed her support for the weavers by purchasing two saris and a dress material. She was accompanied by Handlooms and Textiles Commissioner Rekha Rani and APCO MD Pawan Murthy.
