An officer who recently retired from the police department uncovered a disturbing revelation about counterfeit garlic. He disclosed that he himself had fallen victim to this deceptive practice. He emphasized the severity of the situation amidst a backdrop of widespread adulteration and fraud in the market. The public expressed alarm at the increasing instances of adulterated products infiltrating their daily consumption, posing significant health risks.
A startling case of fraudulent garlic sales has emerged, where artificial garlic composed of cement has been circulated. Subhash Patil, a former police officer from Akola, Maharashtra, brought attention to this fraudulent scheme. Upon attempting to peel the garlic he purchased, it became evident that the product was not authentic, as it resisted cutting and was ultimately found to be a concoction of cement. The discovery of counterfeit garlic masquerading as the real vegetable, painted white to deceive consumers, prompted Patil to raise awareness through social media.
In light of a surge in garlic prices in Maharashtra, unscrupulous individuals have seized the opportunity to exploit consumers by peddling fake garlic made from cement. Concerns have been voiced over the unethical practices of small-scale traders who target unsuspecting buyers with these counterfeit goods, selling them at discounted rates. Consequently, the market price of garlic, which typically ranged from Rs. 300 to Rs. 350 in urban areas, has seen a significant inflation.
