A distributor who transitioned from being an exhibitor has advised the filmmaker-turned producer Puri Jagannadh and his co-producer Charmme Kaur to take on a more responsible approach if they intend to continue making films. The distributor expressed concerns that failure to adapt may result in difficulties in releasing their future projects. He emphasized the importance of addressing existing issues with distributors, citing challenges faced by the duo with their recent film, Double iSmart, which performed poorly at the box office.
The distributor highlighted previous instances where distributors incurred significant losses, such as with the film Liger distributed by Warangal Srinu, and emphasized the need for prompt resolution of outstanding payments. The distributor warned that Niranjan Reddy, who suffered substantial losses due to Double iSmart’s underperformance, may join other distributors in seeking redress. He mentioned the substantial sum of over Rs 15 crore required to settle outstanding dues and emphasized the contractual nature of the agreements, noting that producers are typically not obliged to refund money.
In conclusion, the distributor urged Puri and Charmme to uphold their commitments and swiftly address financial obligations to ensure a smoother production process and distribution in the Telugu states. Failure to do so, he cautioned, could pose significant challenges for their future projects.
