The transparency of the Telegram app is being debated around the world. In this background, the Indian government has also focused on the Telegram app. It seems that the Center is taking steps towards banning the Telegram app in India. Telegram is being investigated by the Government of India for alleged involvement in gambling, fraud, and criminal activities. There is a possibility that the Telegram app will be banned in India based on any criminal activities or key issues that come out in the inquiry.

The app is being probed by the Union Ministry of Home, Electronics, and Information Technology. Investigation under Section 14C is ongoing. There have been allegations of increased criminal activities in Telegram over the past few years. It seems that porn videos are being uploaded and shared indiscriminately. Stock market frauds are happening in the name of trading. It has become a platform for cybercriminals. Telegram has also become a platform for dangerous games and gambling. Telegram has become a barrier to piracy movies. In addition, allegations of drug trafficking and violence-inducing content have surfaced on Telegram.

Telegram has been accused of not even following 50% of the Indian Information Technology Rules. Telegram has also been in the news for the UGC-NEET controversy. With this, the transparency of the Telegram app is being discussed. Already, because of Telegram, criminal activity has increased in France, and app owner Pavel Durau has been arrested. If the irregularities found in the investigation by the Indian Government prove true, there is a possibility of the app being banned.
