The police in Andhra Pradesh have intensified their efforts to combat the illegal drug trade in the state, particularly focusing on ganja and other intoxicants. Over the past 100 days, a special drive has been underway to target those involved in the trafficking and distribution of narcotics. DCP Harikrishna reported significant progress, with more than 200 kg of ganja seized in Vijayawada alone. A total of 120 individuals were apprehended for selling ganja, leading to 35 registered cases against them. Additionally, authorities identified 150 areas known for drug consumption and have increased surveillance in these locations. DCP Harikrishna emphasized the importance of public awareness programs to curb substance abuse.
In a recent breakthrough, the police intercepted a massive shipment of 912 kg of ganja en route from Odisha to Andhra Pradesh. Two individuals were arrested in Gullepally, Anakapally district, for possessing cannabis valued at nearly one crore rupees. District SP Deepika confirmed plans to arrest five more suspects connected to the smuggling operation. The seized ganja, sourced from Araku, Odisha, and Visakha, is estimated to be worth several crores. This successful intervention highlights the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region.
