The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jai Shah has been appointed as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), marking a significant moment in cricket history. Jai Shah is set to take over from Greg Barclay, becoming the fifth Indian to lead the global governing authority of cricket. This prestigious position was previously held by notable figures such as Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar.
At just 34 years old, Jai Shah will make history as the youngest person to assume the role of ICC chief. Greg Barclay’s term is scheduled to end on November 30, with Jai Shah officially assuming office on December 1. Barclay, who was unanimously elected in 2020 and re-elected in 2022, will not pursue a third term, paving the way for Jai Shah’s appointment.
With the deadline for nominations closed, Jai Shah emerged as the sole nominee for the chairman’s post, leading to his unanimous election by the ICC. Expressing his commitment to promoting cricket worldwide, Jai Shah looks forward to collaborating with nations to enhance the sport’s reach and popularity.
Numerous celebrities and cricket enthusiasts have extended their congratulations to Jai Shah on his new role, acknowledging his dedication and vision for the future of cricket.
