The Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS) introduced by the Ministry of Heavy Industries is reaching its deadline. As of September 30, the subsidy support for electric two-wheelers under this scheme will cease, leading to an increase in prices for these eco-friendly vehicles.
This development signals the final opportunity for customers to take advantage of the benefits offered by the scheme. With the ex-showroom prices of selected electric two-wheelers currently enjoying a Rs. 10,000 subsidy, the impending conclusion of EMPS emphasizes the urgency for interested buyers to make their purchases before the deadline.
The absence of any official announcements from the government regarding the scheme’s continuation has left many in the industry and consumer base speculating about its future. Notably, premium electric two-wheelers like Ather 450X, Ather Rizta, Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and Vida V1 Pro are among the models eligible for EMPS benefits in India.
Under the EMPS umbrella, a budget of Rs. 778 crore has been allocated specifically for electric two-wheelers, aiming to support the purchase of 500,080 subsidized electric vehicles. This financial injection is anticipated to provide relief to prospective EV buyers, enhancing the accessibility and affordability of electric mobility solutions in the market.
One of the standout features of these electric two-wheelers is the inclusion of innovative functionalities such as a reverse mode for easy maneuvering, skid control designed tires for enhanced safety, live location sharing capabilities, anti-theft measures, fall safety mechanisms, and integration with Google Maps for navigation convenience.
Moreover, the electric scooters come equipped with two battery pack options: a 2.9 kWh and a 3.7 kWh variant, offering ranges of 123 km and 160 km respectively. The top speed across all variants is capped at 80 kmph, ensuring a balance of performance and efficiency for urban commuting needs.
For charging convenience, the 2.9 kWh battery pack requires 6.40 hours to fully charge, while the larger 3.7 kWh battery pack boasts a quicker charging time of 4.30 hours. The pricing of these electric two-wheelers varies across three variants, with ex-showroom prices set at Rs. 109,999, Rs. 124,999, and Rs. 144,999.
The Rizta model, available in seven color options including four dual-tone and three single-tone choices, also comes with a manufacturer’s warranty of 3 years or 30,000 km on the battery and the scooter, ensuring peace of mind for buyers investing in sustainable transportation solutions.
