Devastating landslides have struck the renowned shrine of Indrakiladri, as huge boulders cascaded down the hill, causing significant damage. Prompt action by the temple staff, who swiftly closed the ghat road upon sensing the impending danger, helped avert a potential catastrophe. Tragically, key areas like the donor’s lounge and the protocol room suffered collapses, with the information center office on the hill being completely obliterated. In response, the staff wisely halted the movement of devotees to ensure their safety.

The regions of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are experiencing moderate to heavy rains attributed to a surface trough, leading to chaotic conditions for the residents since the onset of relentless rainfall from Friday midnight. The once bustling streets now resemble flowing rivers, with landslides plaguing various parts of Vijayawada. Notably, the landslides at Indrakiladri have garnered attention due to their impact and the subsequent rescue efforts underway.

Tragedy struck the opposite side of the Indrakiladri hill, as broken cliffs bear witness to the ongoing landslides in areas like Mughal Rajpuram, claiming lives and prompting urgent evacuations. Despite the challenges, officials are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of residents, with the recent spike in casualties prompting a compensation announcement by CM Chandra Babu to support the affected families.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Babu has issued a stern warning in light of the weather department’s forecast of continued heavy rains for the next three days, urging vigilance and adherence to safety guidelines. Residents are implored to heed the directives from authorities to mitigate further risks and ensure their well-being.

In response to the unprecedented rainfall in Vijayawada, authorities have implemented strict measures, including restrictions on two-wheeler usage and road diversions to manage the traffic influx. The inundated main roads and overflow of the outfall drain in the old town have heightened the urgency for coordinated efforts to alleviate the waterlogging and minimize the impact on residents.
