Four large boats swept away by recent floodwaters became lodged at the gates of Prakasam Barrage, causing the suspension of vehicular traffic in the area for 24 hours. As a precaution, the Mangalagiri subdivision police halted all vehicular movement except for emergency vehicles on Monday.

DSP Murali Krishna reported that the boats collided with the barrage and damaged Gate 60 early in the morning. “Vehicular traffic between Vijayawada and Tadepalli from the Undavalli side, and in the opposite direction, will remain suspended until Tuesday,” he said.

The Prakasam Barrage has been experiencing heavy inflows, with a record 11.40 lakh cusecs of floodwater being released through all 72 gates.

The second flood warning remained active throughout Monday, as the Krishna River continued to swell due to relentless rains in the upstream areas of the Prakasam Barrage.
