A report released on Tuesday reveals a 32 percent increase in the number of Indians traveling abroad at least twice a year. Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi are leading in international travel searches, according to the “How India Travels Abroad” report by travel booking platform MakeMyTrip.

The UAE, Thailand, and the US are the most popular destinations for Indian travelers, while Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Bhutan are emerging as notable new destinations.

The report highlights that international travel search volumes remain relatively constant throughout the year, with December being the peak month for searches.

Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, commented, “With rising disposable incomes, greater exposure to global cultures, and easier travel options, more Indians are exploring both domestic and international destinations for leisure and business.”

He added, “While domestic tourism continues to thrive, our findings reflect significant shifts in international travel behavior influenced by macroeconomic factors driving the increased travel among Indians.”

The report also notes a 70 percent increase in search volume for the top 10 emerging destinations, with Almaty and Baku experiencing growth rates of 527 percent and 395 percent, respectively.

There is also a growing interest in luxury travel among Indians, with a 10 percent increase in searches for business class flights. Hong Kong shows the highest growth in search volume with a 131 percent increase, followed by Sri Lanka, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia.
