The Central Health Department has granted approval to Yadadri, Medak, Maheswaram, and Kuthbullapur Medical Colleges in Telangana. The state has directed the National Medical Commission to authorize these four applied colleges. Earlier this week, the Union Health Department communicated this decision to the state government.
Each of the four colleges is set to offer 50 MBBS seats, totaling 200 available seats. This approval follows the NMC’s prior authorization of Mulugu, Narsampet, Gadwal, and Narayanapet Medical Colleges this year, adding up to 400 seats across all eight colleges. Consequently, the total number of seats in government colleges in Telangana has risen to 4090.
Facing concerns from NMC officials regarding inadequate facilities during their June inspections, the government promptly addressed the issue by allocating necessary funds. After rectifying the raised errors, the NMC initially approved four colleges and later granted permissions for the remaining four following a second appeal.
Health Minister Damodara Raja Narsimha oversaw the process closely, ensuring staff appointments and resolving staffing shortages through promotions and transfers. Funds were allocated for essential equipment in both the college and hospital settings.
In a collaborative effort involving CM Revanth Reddy, Health Minister Damodara Raja Narsimha, Health Secretary Christina J Chongtoo, Director of Medical Education Dr. Vani, and a team of officials and doctors, discussions with Central Health Department and NMC officials led to the final approval of all colleges.
Minister Damodara Rajanarsimha expressed gratitude to the central government and CM Revanth Reddy for their support in securing permissions and funds. He commended the efforts of healthcare officials and reiterated the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare infrastructure.
