On Friday, a special program was organized to honor the exceptional efforts of the fire services personnel who bravely responded to the flood crisis. Madireddy Pratap, the Director General of the State Disaster Response Force and Fire Services Department, commended the APSDR and fire services for their swift action during the heavy rains and Budameru floods, rescuing 6,432 individuals and relocating 13,424 people to safety.
During the event, officials and community leaders expressed gratitude for the dedicated service provided by the firefighting teams. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, along with SDRF directors, fire officers, staff, and public representatives, felicitated the rescue teams. Anitha recognized the vital role played by the fire personnel in the relief operations and assured support for strengthening the fire services department.
As part of the ceremony, a procession of fire engines paraded from Swati Junction to the bus stand in Bhavanipuram. Pratap highlighted the collaborative effort involving 111 fire vehicles and 1,301 personnel from various regions to clear homes and roads of debris left by the floods. Over 75,700 households and 354 kilometers of roads were successfully cleaned, with essential supplies like food, water, milk, and medicines delivered to stranded areas using rescue boats.
The gesture of appreciation extended to the fire department staff by Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha underscored their invaluable service during the recent floods in Vijayawada.
