These swifts have very long wings and short legs. Therefore, they cannot fly directly from the ground into the air. Researchers say they need some height to fly. Always flying makes swifts very fast and agile. The common swift feeds on insects while in flight. This bird hunts these insects in the air. The common swift is a migratory bird. It travels towards warmer regions in winter. On average, swifts land on Earth for only 0.64 percent of their stay. Alpine swifts fly non-stop for nearly 200 days during migration. Swifts feed on flying insects to survive in the air. When it comes to nesting, swifts nest in tree hollows and trunks. But, as such habitats become scarce in the current concrete jungle, they are shifting to urban environments. Not only does it fly continuously, but one of its specialties is its speed. Experts say that Swift can fly at a speed of 112 km per hour. It stays in the air for months. They land on land only during the breeding season, when the weather is unfavorable.
