The National Security Guard (NSG) is celebrating its 40th Foundation Day, and in light of this milestone, the Indian government has taken a crucial decision regarding the deployment of its elite commandos. It has been announced that NSG personnel will no longer be assigned VVIP security duties, allowing them to focus solely on their primary responsibilities of counter-terrorism operations and counter-hijacking missions.

Currently, nine high-profile leaders, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, receive security from NSG commandos. However, from next month, they will be protected by the CRPF’s VIP Security Wing.

The NSG, often referred to as “black cats,” will now limit its operations strictly to counter-terrorism and counter-hijacking missions. Historically, in 2020, security for Sonia, Rahul, and Priyanka Gandhi was also transitioned from NSG to CRPF, setting a precedent for this policy change.
The NSG’s commitment to combating terrorism remains steadfast, with commandos likely to focus on vital operations, including the protection of significant locations such as the Ayodhya Ram Temple and other temples across South India.
