Andhra Pradesh residents should prepare for an intense weather spell, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next five days. The rainfall is expected to be most severe in south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, as a depression forming over the Bay of Bengal is predicted to make landfall near Nellore early Thursday morning.

According to the IMD, the depression was moving west-northwest at 15 km/h and was situated at latitude 12.5° N and longitude 82.7° E, approximately 280 km east-southeast of Chennai, and 370 km southeast of Nellore. The depression is expected to follow a west-northwest trajectory, making landfall between Puducherry and Nellore, near Chennai. Thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds are anticipated along south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema as a result.

Rainfall and Wind Alerts:
The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert, predicting substantial downpour and thunderstorms for October 17, especially in south coastal AP and Rayalaseema. On Day 1, Kavali and Nellore recorded the maximum rainfall at 5.5 cm each, while Tirupati recorded 5.3 cm. Moderate rainfall is expected in areas including Narsapur (3.5 cm), Ongole (3.0 cm), and Bapatla (1.7 cm).

Thunderstorms, coupled with lightning, are likely in various parts of Andhra Pradesh, including north coastal AP and Yanam. In addition, coastal areas should expect squally winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h, with gusts up to 60 km/h in some places.

Outlook for the Next Five Days:
Day 1 (October 17): Heavy rain and thunderstorms are anticipated in south coastal AP and Rayalaseema.
Day 2: The intense rain spell will continue, with thunderstorms likely in isolated areas.
Days 3-5: The rainfall intensity is expected to reduce, and no significant rainfall is forecasted for these days.
Residents are urged to exercise caution and stay informed about the latest weather updates. Coastal communities are advised to take necessary precautions and stay indoors during periods of high winds and thunderstorms.

The IMD advises fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea, as conditions are expected to be hazardous. Local authorities have been instructed to remain vigilant and provide assistance where necessary.
