In a significant breakthrough, Kerala police have taken four individuals into custody from Haryana for their alleged involvement in the theft of a traditional bronze vessel, or “uruli,” from the renowned Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The vessel, used for poojas and rituals, went missing from the ancient temple, which is known for housing priceless treasures in its secret vaults.
Fort Police confirmed the arrests, made with the assistance of Haryana police. While specific details remain under wraps, authorities have revealed that one of the accused is a doctor with Australian citizenship. The group, consisting of the doctor and two or three women, had reportedly visited the temple and offered prayers last week. The theft is believed to have occurred on Thursday.
After the temple authorities reported the missing vessel, Kerala police launched a detailed investigation, closely examining CCTV footage from the temple premises. The visuals helped the authorities identify the suspects, who were later traced to Haryana. The joint effort between Kerala and Haryana police led to the arrest of the accused, who are expected to be brought back to Thiruvananthapuram later today for further questioning.
The theft at Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple, a highly secured and sacred site with round-the-clock protection by police and special Thunderbolt personnel, has raised concerns about the security measures in place. The temple, revered for its vast wealth and historical significance, remains a focal point for worshippers and visitors alike.
The police investigation is ongoing, and more details about the suspects and the circumstances surrounding the theft are expected to emerge soon.
