In a significant breakthrough at Visakhapatnam Railway Station, police seized over 10 kg of ganja with the help of a narcotic sniffer dog, Caesar. The seizure came to light during routine checks as part of an ongoing operation to curb drug smuggling in the city. The details of the incident are as follows.
On a busy day at Visakhapatnam Railway Station, with trains arriving and passengers bustling about, police were conducting routine checks with Caesar, a trained narcotic dog. While patrolling the platform, Caesar suddenly stopped and alerted his handler, raising the suspicion of the officers. Upon further inspection, the police uncovered a hidden stash of ganja, amounting to 10.30 kg, which was promptly seized.
Caesar’s quick detection played a crucial role in halting the smuggling operation. The seized ganja was handed over to the Railway Police for further action. Commissioner of Police (CP) Bagchi praised Caesar and his handler, Ramprasad, for their effective work in detecting the contraband. This successful operation is part of an ongoing initiative by the CP to eliminate ganja and other narcotic drugs from Visakhapatnam.
To further strengthen efforts in combating drug smuggling, the CP, with the cooperation of the District Collector and GVMC Commissioner, has taken special steps by preparing eight additional sniffer dogs. These dogs have been sent for specialized training at a canine training center and will soon be available for deployment in the fight against illegal narcotics in the city.
This operation highlights the critical role of trained sniffer dogs in aiding the police to crack down on drug smuggling and ensuring public safety.
