Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed his gratitude towards the central government on Thursday following the Union Cabinet’s approval for a new 57-km railway line to the capital city, Amaravati. Addressing the media in Velagapudi, Naidu urged the Centre to expedite the project, aiming for completion within three years. With an estimated cost of ₹2,245 crore, this significant railway initiative will connect Amaravati with major cities like Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Chennai, strengthening its position as a vital hub in India’s railway network.

To enhance the infrastructure and symbolically represent Amaravati’s fast-paced development, Naidu proposed the construction of a 3.2 km-long “iconic” rail bridge across the River Krishna. He commended the central government for its continued support in rebuilding Amaravati, noting that railway projects valued at ₹72,000 crore are currently underway across Andhra Pradesh. These include station modernization projects that aim to elevate travel standards in the state.

Naidu also highlighted his discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a recent visit to New Delhi, where he emphasized the importance of rail connectivity for Amaravati’s growth. He assured that the state would release matching funds on time, demonstrating commitment by supporting land acquisition and other resources necessary for the railway project.

The project’s foundation stone is expected to be laid by Prime Minister Modi either in November or December. This new railway line to Amaravati is set to bolster connectivity, promote regional growth, and position the capital as a cornerstone of Andhra Pradesh’s future infrastructure.
