In his latest film Matka, the actor transforms from a struggling young man to a powerful figure in society, navigating various styles and eras through the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. Discussing his character Vasu, he shared insights on the style journey, saying, “The first look is of someone from a low-income background—a daily wager in a small port. His anger and hunger push him to make a mark. As he rises, his look evolves, from rough and rugged to a man of style, wearing fine clothing that reflects his journey.” This transformation is seen through unique hairstyles, clothing choices, and an attention to fashion trends of each decade.
Offscreen, he reveals that his wife Lavanya prefers him in brighter colors, particularly orange, although he’s partial to darker tones. “She’s an actress herself, so there’s no insecurity. I got lucky with her; she blends perfectly with my family,” he shared. Despite fans wishing to see them together onscreen, the actor admits they’re likely to stay off the same set after two collaborations didn’t perform well. Instead, the couple plans to explore business together.
Reflecting on the recent box office performance of Operation Valentine, he is candid: “When a film doesn’t work, you introspect. I realized I wanted something with wider appeal—that’s why I chose Matka, a more commercial venture.” He acknowledges the high stakes of theatrical releases today, noting that like many actors, he opts for a territory-sharing remuneration model rather than a fixed pay, easing the budget burden on producers.
His next film promises a blend of Telugu and Korean elements in a horror-comedy rowdy action flick, set in Rayalaseema with a Bihari touch. “We’re still finalizing the title, and we’ve wrapped a few days of shooting,” he said, teasing that a romance film is on the horizon for next year.
