Visakhapatnam, often known as Vizag, is set to witness a transformational boost with the imminent launch of its long-awaited metro rail project. Announced in the state assembly by Urban Development Minister P. Narayana, the project promises to enhance mobility and connectivity for this bustling coastal city. Minister Narayana confirmed that the groundwork for the project would commence soon, marking a new era of development for Vizag.
According to Minister Narayana, responsibility for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been entrusted to the Visakhapatnam Metro Transport Corporation. The proposed plan outlines an expansive 76.9 km metro network designed to connect key areas within the city. The ambitious project, designed to address Vizag’s growing transportation needs, is aimed at promoting sustainable urban growth and making the city more accessible to residents and tourists alike.
During the assembly session, TDP MLAs Palla Srinivas Rao, PGVR Naidu, and Velagapudi Babu Ramakrishna raised pertinent questions about the project’s scope and timeline. In response, Narayana assured that the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) has already been submitted to the central government, covering four strategic metro rail corridors across the city. While the project’s estimated budget is substantial, this investment will significantly bolster Vizag’s infrastructure, economic potential, and environmental sustainability.
With the Detailed Project Report finalized and approvals underway, Vizag is on track to join the ranks of India’s metro-equipped cities. Residents and stakeholders are eagerly looking forward to the increased convenience and reduced congestion that the metro rail promises to bring, establishing Vizag as a modern urban center.
