In a significant announcement during the State Legislative Assembly session on Friday, Education Minister Nara Lokesh shared the government’s ambitious plan to elevate the standards of government junior colleges in Andhra Pradesh, bringing them on par with leading private institutions like Narayana Colleges.

Responding to MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao’s query, Lokesh highlighted the challenges faced by government junior colleges under the previous administration. He revealed that the student strength in these colleges had declined drastically but has seen a promising revival under the current government, with over 15,000 new admissions recorded recently.

Reforms in Intermediate Education

The education minister detailed the reforms being implemented to improve the quality of education:

  • Student Categorization: Students are being classified into A, B, and C categories based on their academic proficiency.
  • Bridge Courses: Special courses are being introduced for students needing additional support in specific subjects.
  • Focus on Faculty and Material: The government is prioritizing building a robust faculty and enhancing the quality of educational materials by consulting senior officers from the secondary and intermediate education boards.

Collaboration with Narayana Institutions

Lokesh acknowledged the expertise of Minister Ponguru Narayana, head of Narayana Colleges, who participated as the chief guest at a recent education workshop. Narayana provided key insights and suggestions to further strengthen the state’s education system.

Vision for the Future

The government is determined to transform public intermediate education. Lokesh emphasized that these efforts aim to ensure government colleges not only compete with but excel alongside top-tier private institutions, providing quality education accessible to all.

This vision reflects a focused approach towards bridging the gap between public and private education and ensuring equal opportunities for students across the state.
