A brewing legal battle has taken center stage in Kollywood as actor Dhanush’s lawyer issued a legal notice to actress Nayanthara, her husband and filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, and Netflix India. The dispute revolves around a three-second behind-the-scenes clip from the 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which was allegedly used in the trailer of the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.
Dhanush, who starred in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, claims copyright infringement and has demanded ₹10 crore in damages. The legal notice demands the immediate removal of the infringing content from all platforms within 24 hours. “Advice your client to take down the content infringing my client’s copyright over the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan by using the same in your client’s documentary named Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale within 24 hours, failing which my client will be forced to initiate appropriate legal action, including but not limited to seeking damages to a sum of ₹10 crores against your client and Netflix India,” the notice reads.
The controversy began when Nayanthara publicly criticized Dhanush for raising the ₹10 crore claim. While Dhanush has not personally addressed the issue, the legal notice reflects his stance, escalating the dispute to legal territory.
Fans are divided, with some supporting Dhanush’s claim of protecting intellectual property, while others feel the issue could have been resolved amicably without escalating to legal action. As the industry awaits further developments, this clash between two leading stars continues to make headlines.
Will Netflix comply with the demand, or will the matter proceed to court? Stay tuned for updates on this high-stakes copyright battle.
