Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reiterated his government’s commitment to maintaining robust law and order, warning that any violations would be met with strict punishment. He made these comments during the debate on the Preventive of Dangerous Acts Amendment Bill in the Legislative Assembly, underlining the importance of safety as a foundation for development.

Key Highlights from CM Chandrababu’s Address

Stronger Laws for a Safer State

The Chief Minister emphasized that the state’s prosperity depends on maintaining law and order. He noted:

  • PD Act Amendment: The Preventive Detention Act has been strengthened to deter criminal activities and ensure public safety.
  • Women’s Safety: Special attention is being given to enhancing measures that protect women.
  • Police Reforms: Steps are being taken to fortify the police system and make it more accountable and people-centric.

Promoting Investments and Tourism

Chandrababu highlighted that a secure environment is key to attracting investments and boosting tourism. Without law and order, he warned, economic opportunities and tourism would suffer, potentially hindering the state’s development.

Reforming Land Governance

The Chief Minister criticized the Land Titling Act introduced by the previous government, alleging that it facilitated fraud and irregularities. He explained:

  • The act granted excessive powers to revenue officers, allowing land ownership changes without proper notice.
  • Complaints were permitted to bypass lower courts and directly approach the High Court.

As part of his government’s electoral promise, the act has been repealed. A new law has been introduced to protect landowners from encroachment and other threats, ensuring that violators face strict penalties.

Accountability in Governance

Chandrababu also addressed lapses in the police system, criticizing senior officers who acted arbitrarily and tarnished the system’s reputation. He revealed that such officers have been suspended, sending a clear message that misconduct will not be tolerated.

The Chief Minister urged the police to prioritize public welfare and pledged to continue reforms to enhance the system’s efficiency.

Vision for a Safe and Progressive Andhra Pradesh

CM Chandrababu Naidu concluded by stressing the inseparable link between safety and progress. “Development is possible only if law and order is strong,” he said, reiterating his government’s dedication to creating a secure and thriving environment for all.
