Ranchi, November 25: The stage is set for the formation of a new government in Jharkhand. Hemant Soren, the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), is set to take oath as the Chief Minister for the fourth time on November 28. The Governor of Jharkhand, Santosh Gangwar, has invited Soren to form the new government after the India alliance emerged victorious in the recent state assembly elections.
JMM’s Victory and Alliance Formation
In the assembly elections, the India alliance, which includes JMM, Congress, and RJD, secured a total of 56 seats in the 81-member Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. Hemant Soren, along with leaders from the allied parties, met Governor Santosh Gangwar at Raj Bhavan to formally request to be invited to form the government. This marks another significant milestone in Soren’s political career, as he is set to lead the state for the second consecutive term.
Cabinet Expansion and Party Negotiations
During the meeting, Hemant Soren also held discussions with key leaders from the Congress and RJD, including Telangana Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, and Tariq Anwar, who are Congress observers in Jharkhand. Soren revealed plans to accommodate Congress and RJD members in his cabinet, ensuring their participation in the upcoming government.
Congress has reportedly requested four ministerial posts as part of their participation in the coalition government. Soren, who has been elected as the leader of the India Alliance legislative party, has already submitted his resignation letter to the governor as part of the formal process to facilitate the formation of the new government.
Historical Significance
Hemant Soren’s victory is notable because, in Jharkhand, no party has managed to win two consecutive terms in the state’s history. However, Soren’s success has broken this 24-year-old record, making him the first leader in the state to retain power for a second consecutive term.
With JMM securing 34 seats, Congress winning 16, RJD securing 4, and CPI-ML winning 2 seats, the formation of the government seems well on course. The swearing-in ceremony of Hemant Soren as Chief Minister will take place on November 28, marking the beginning of another term for the leader who has been at the forefront of the state’s political landscape.
