A heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh as a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal is set to intensify into Cyclone Fengal on Wednesday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is expected to move in a north-northwest direction toward the Tamil Nadu coast while skirting Sri Lanka over the next two days.
This marks the second cyclone of the post-monsoon season after Cyclone Dana, which impacted Odisha as a severe cyclone in late October. Cyclone Fengal has been named by Saudi Arabia, as per the IMD’s naming conventions.
Heavy Rainfall Predictions
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu between Wednesday and Saturday.

Heavy rainfall is predicted in parts of Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, Annamayya, and Chittoor districts. - November 30 (Thursday):
Heavy to very heavy rainfall will impact areas in Nellore, Tirupati, and Annamayya districts. Moderate rainfall is likely over Bapatla, Prakasam, Sri Satya Sai, Chittoor, and YSR Kadapa districts. - November 29 – December 1 (Friday to Saturday):
Widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Nellore, Prakasam, Tirupati, Annamayya, and Chittoor districts, along with Bapatla, Sri Satya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and Anakapalle districts.
Tamil Nadu Rainfall Alerts:
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in coastal Tamil Nadu during this period, particularly in areas close to the cyclone’s trajectory.
