A venomous snake was caught in the fishermen’s net at the Sagar Nagar beach of Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. Dr. P. Srinivasa Rao, Assistant Director of the Department of Fisheries, said that the technical name of this creature that roams deep in the ocean waters is ‘Hydrophis Sea Snake’.

He said that these are poisonous. If the bite is not treated in time, it is life-threatening. It is said that they survive by eating small fish and moss in rocks. As part of the search for food, they get caught in nets when they join groups of fish. Fishermen call it cut snake. The snake, about seven feet long, was safely released back into the sea by the fishermen.
