US President Joe Biden announced he will not run for reelection, marking a significant shift following weeks of pressure from Democrats urging him to step aside to enhance their chances against Donald Trump.
On Sunday, Biden revealed his decision and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. This announcement comes less than four months before the election and shortly before the party’s nominating convention in Chicago.
“In light of my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is best for my party and the country for me to step down and concentrate on my presidential duties for the rest of my term,” Biden stated on X.
“It’s time to unite and defeat Trump. Let’s make it happen,” he added in a follow-up post, expressing his “full support and endorsement” for Harris.
