In an inspiring crossover between politics and cinema, six members of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly (MLAs) are set to make their acting debut in a biopic centered around the life of renowned freedom fighter and social justice advocate, Babu Jagjivan Ram. The project, officially announced by film director Dilip Raj at a press conference held at the MAA-AP office in Tenali, is being produced by Dr. Chandolu Nagamalleswara Rao, an Andhra Pradesh-based doctor currently practicing in Jamaica. This ambitious film, titled Jagjivan Ram, will start filming on November 9 in Tenali and promises to be a cinematic journey into the heart of India’s struggle for independence.
The biopic aims to capture pivotal moments in India’s freedom movement, including Jagjivan Ram’s detentions by British authorities and his immense contributions to social equality. The film will bring history alive, with Prathipadu MLA B. Ramanjaneyulu playing the revolutionary Bhagat Singh, Parvathipuram MLA Vijay Chandra stepping into the role of Chandrasekhar Azad, and Chintalapudi MLA S. Roshan Kumar portraying a British Governor General. Supporting roles will be taken on by MLAs Varla Kumar Raja, Dastagiri, and Jayasurya.
Dilip Raj expressed the challenges and excitement of recreating the historical events accurately, noting the time and budget demands of such a significant project. Military Prasad has been cast as the titular character Jagjivan Ram, while seasoned actress Talluri Rameshwari will depict former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar. Kannada film stars Markali, Jeeva, Narasimha Raju, Annapurna, Kavya Keerthi, Divija, Padmini, Rajya, Errababu, Bhanu, and Haribabu round out the dynamic cast.
Produced under the Pedaravuru Film Studio banner, Jagjivan Ram has backing from Non-Resident Indians, including Dr. Nagamalleswara Rao, with coordination led by Kaleeb Raju. Helming the story, screenplay, lyrics, and direction, Dilip Raj has built an expansive vision for this film. Upon its release, expected worldwide in 2025, the movie will be available in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam, as per Pradeep Donepudi, the unit controller.
This cinematic project not only honors Jagjivan Ram’s legacy but also demonstrates the commitment of Andhra Pradesh’s MLAs to showcase India’s rich history. With politicians stepping into iconic roles, Jagjivan Ram will highlight the sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle and aims to inspire new generations.
