Hyderabad, November 7 — In a significant update, the Central Government has announced a relaxation in the eligibility criteria for the JEE Advanced exam. Until now, candidates were allowed to appear for the exam only twice, for two consecutive years. However, this limit has been extended, allowing candidates to attempt the JEE Advanced exam for three consecutive years starting now.
Key Changes in JEE Advanced Eligibility:
- Extended Eligibility: Candidates can now appear for the JEE Advanced exam up to three years in a row.
- Relaxation for 2022-23 Students: The relaxation also applies to students who passed in the academic year 2022-23, giving them another opportunity to write the exam this year.
- Age Criteria: For JEE Advanced 2025, only candidates born on or after October 1, 2000 are eligible. However, candidates from SC, ST, and Divyang (disabled) categories are granted a five-year exemption, meaning they must be born on or after October 1, 1995 to apply.
This relaxation is expected to provide more chances for aspiring candidates to secure seats in prestigious IITs.
Exam Syllabus and Date:
- The syllabus for JEE Advanced 2025 remains unchanged, and students are advised to prepare according to the previous syllabus.
- Although the exact date for the JEE Advanced 2025 exam has not been confirmed, it is usually held in the 3rd or 4th week of May. Experts anticipate the exam could be scheduled between May 18 and 25, 2025.
Direct Admission for International Olympiad Participants:
In another major development, IIT Kanpur has announced that students who have participated in the International Olympiad will be granted direct admissions to IIT Kanpur, bypassing the usual JEE Advanced requirements.
- Seats for Olympiad Participants: Up to 6 seats in the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department will be reserved for students who participated in the Mathematics and Informatics Olympiad. Admissions will also be available for the departments of Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biological Sciences, and Bio-Engineering.
- Application Timeline: Applications for these seats will open in the first week of March, and the admissions process will be completed before JOSAA counselling.
- Seat Allocation: It is yet to be clarified whether these seats will be additional or allocated from the existing pool of seats.
Conclusion:
This is a landmark change in the JEE Advanced eligibility rules, benefiting students who had previously missed the opportunity to write the exam. Additionally, the direct admission offer for International Olympiad participants opens a new avenue for academically talented students, providing them a unique opportunity to gain admission into IITs without going through the JEE process.
