Nayanthara Speaks Out Against Dhanush: Calls Legal Dispute Over Documentary Footage ‘Vile and Vengeful

The much-anticipated Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale has found itself at the center of a heated controversy, with Nayanthara accusing fellow actor Dhanush of obstructing its progress. In a powerful Instagram post, the celebrated actress claimed that Dhanush blocked the use of pivotal footage from her landmark film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, a project instrumental in shaping her career.

The actress further revealed that Dhanush had sent a legal notice demanding ₹10 crore in damages, citing unauthorized usage of behind-the-scenes visuals from the film. In her heartfelt note, Nayanthara described his actions as “vile” and “vengeful,” calling attention to the disparity in their journeys within the film industry.

A self-made woman with no industry connections, I fought tooth and nail for survival, while you, with the blessings of a powerful film family, had the privilege of a smoother entry. Yet, you chose to block our efforts over three seconds of footage that are already publicly available on social media, she wrote.

The actress disclosed that her team had spent two years attempting to secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Dhanush for using clips from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her documentary. However, she alleged deliberate stalling tactics from the actor.

In her post, Nayanthara also expressed how this ongoing conflict doesn’t just affect her but the entire team behind the documentary, including her partner and the crew who worked tirelessly to bring the project to life.

She concluded her letter with a direct address to Dhanush, stating, “The vengeance you have been festering doesn’t just harm me, but countless others who have poured their heart and soul into this project.” She ended her post with the mantra, “Om Namah Shivaya,” signifying her resilience and faith amid the turmoil.

The controversy has sparked widespread discussions in the film fraternity and among fans. While Dhanush is yet to respond, Nayanthara’s bold stance has won her praise for standing up for her work and principles.
