Actress Esha Deol encountered obstacles when trying to break into the film industry, despite her family’s influential background. Her father, Dharmendra, renowned for his traditional beliefs, initially opposed her acting aspirations and instead preferred that she marry and start a family by the age of 18. Esha disclosed, “He wasn’t supportive of my acting career. He holds traditional values, and being a Punjabi father, he envisioned an early marriage and settlement for me.” She also shared, “There was a phase when I had to deceive to enjoy late-night outings.”
Esha characterized her father as holding justified traditional views, shaped by his upbringing. She acknowledged his preference for early marriage, a common practice in his community. The actress clarified that while her father, as a Punjabi, upheld the tradition of early marriage due to his background, her own upbringing differed significantly. “His mindset is influenced by his past, where women in his family were raised that way. However, my upbringing was distinctly different,” Esha expressed.
