Samantha Ruth Prabhu, known for her versatile roles across Indian cinema, is all set to break barriers with her portrayal of a fierce agent in the much-anticipated series Citadel: Honey Bunny. This Indian chapter of the Citadel franchise promises high-octane action, and Samantha is thrilled to be doing the “heavy lifting” in this spy thriller.
During the trailer launch, Samantha expressed her excitement about bringing a strong female character to a genre traditionally dominated by men. “From time immemorial, if there’s a spy series or film, there’s always a male character at the center of it, doing all the cool action, dialogues, and saving the day,” Samantha said. “What sets this apart is that I get to kick some a**, and it’s fantastic!”
Citadel is a global series with interconnected stories across different countries. Priyanka Chopra Jonas leads the main series, while Matilda De Angelis takes the helm in Citadel: Diana. Samantha acknowledged the contributions of these powerhouse women, saying, “With people like Priyanka Chopra and Matilda doing some of the heavy lifting, I think it is an amazing way to represent women of society correctly. We do it all, don’t we?”
Samantha, who previously showcased her action chops in The Family Man 2, shared that it’s invigorating to see women front and center in action roles. “It sounds cool that it is female-driven, but it should be an equal playing ground where intelligence, talent, and strength decide your fate, irrespective of gender. That would be an amazing place to be at,” she added.
Citadel: Honey Bunny presents a balanced world where women are equally involved in high-stakes missions, making it a tempting project for Samantha, who stated that she had “manifested” this role. Her portrayal in the series is set to redefine action roles for women and inspire a generation of viewers. With Samantha at the forefront, Citadel: Honey Bunny is expected to captivate audiences and bring a new dimension to the global franchise.
As female-led action series gain popularity, Samantha’s role in Citadel: Honey Bunny is a testament to the evolution of storytelling that transcends traditional gender roles, paving the way for more inclusive and diverse narratives in cinema.
