Bollywood’s King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, is set to make a grand announcement on his 59th birthday, November 2, revealing his highly anticipated next film, King. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, the film also stars his daughter Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, making this a star-studded project that has already generated immense buzz across the industry.
After delivering a hattrick of blockbusters in 2023 with Pathaan and Jawan shattering box office records, followed by the success of Dunki, Shah Rukh Khan continues to reign as Bollywood’s ultimate superstar. His upcoming film King, which will release in 2026, is already being touted as one of the most awaited films of the decade. Trade analyst Sumit Kadel shared his insights, saying, “There is no denying that he remains the most sought-after star. King will be released in 2026, followed by Pathaan 2. These films will mark his return to the screen three years after the box office blitzkrieg of 2023.”
Rumors have also swirled about King Khan collaborating with Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik, but sources close to both say that in Bollywood, nothing is official until the ink has dried. For now, fans are eagerly awaiting King, where Shah Rukh will share the screen with his daughter Suhana, marking her foray into mainstream Bollywood.
Meanwhile, Salman Khan is also making waves as he shoots for AR Murugadoss’s Sikander, and has signed on for a project with Jawan director Atlee, set to release in 2026. However, Salman has not delivered a massive hit since Tiger Zinda Hai in 2017, and it remains to be seen how his upcoming films will fare.
2023 has been a monumental year for Bollywood, witnessing the resurgence of both Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor, proving that reinvention is the key to staying relevant in the ever-changing landscape of Indian cinema. As the Khans and other big names like Akshay Kumar approach 60, they must continue adapting to evolving audience expectations. “Gone are the days when stardom alone could draw in crowds,” said a prominent exhibitor.
Akshay Kumar, too, is set for a comeback with Housefull 5 after a series of box office disappointments, including Bade Miyan Chotte Miyan, Sarphira, and Khel Khel Mein. He is also reuniting with filmmaker Priyadarshan for the first time in 14 years, hoping to recreate the magic of their earlier hits like Hera Pheri and Garam Masala. Priyadarshan acknowledged the challenge, saying, “We can’t match the expectations of the audience, but I’m trying my best.”
With King on the horizon, Shah Rukh Khan’s 59th birthday promises to be a milestone event not just for the actor but for Bollywood fans around the globe.
