A toxic gas leak at Rakshit Drugs, a pharma chemical company in Parawada, Anakapalle district, has once again raised serious safety concerns within the region. The incident, which occurred on Monday morning, left four workers ill after they allegedly inhaled hydrogen sulphide fumes from Production Block 1 of the facility.
Two of the affected workers, Dev Baghand and Ugres Gowda from Odisha, are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Visakhapatnam city. While one worker’s condition is critical, medical teams are closely monitoring the others.
District Collector Vijay Krishnan has directed officials to ensure comprehensive medical care for the affected workers. He also called on industries and pollution control authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and submit their findings. Minister Vasamsetty Subhash expressed his deep concern over the recurring safety lapses in Parawada’s pharma industry and assured that appropriate actions would be taken against those responsible for the toxic gas leak.
This incident highlights the pressing need for stricter safety protocols in Parawada’s industrial zone, a hub for pharmaceutical companies. Over the years, similar accidents have sparked alarm about worker safety and environmental risks.
The authorities have pledged swift action to address these issues, but for the families of the affected workers, the incident underscores the human cost of industrial negligence. As investigations continue, all eyes are on the findings and the steps that will be taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
