Breaking into the film industry as a heroine is no easy feat, and maintaining success is even harder. Many actresses have won hearts with their performances and risen to become stars in big-budget films. Vidya Balan is one of those stars who has established herself as a powerhouse in Bollywood with her talent and resilience. Her critically acclaimed film Kahaani is a testament to her grit and versatility.

Released in 2012, Kahaani not only showcased Vidya’s exceptional acting skills but also became a box-office hit. The movie, based on a mysterious incident in Kolkata Metro, was produced on a modest budget of ₹15 crores and went on to earn ₹79 crores. However, the journey behind the film was far from glamorous. Vidya recently opened up about the challenges she faced during the shooting of Kahaani, sharing that the low budget meant there was no vanity van, a staple for actors on film sets. Instead, she had to change costumes in a parked car on the side of the road, with black cloth wrapped around the windows for privacy.

The role in Kahaani came to Vidya after the box-office failure of Aladdin. Despite being a well-known actress who had worked alongside Bollywood icons like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, Vidya had to contemplate if she should take on this low-budget film. Yet, her decision to collaborate with director Sujoy Ghosh paid off immensely. Vidya shared that while shooting Kahaani was challenging, it was also an incredibly rewarding experience as the entire team worked hard to bring the story to life.

Vidya’s dedication to her craft has won her countless admirers and awards. Even though she is currently taking a break from mainstream heroine roles, she is choosing projects that allow her to portray strong female leads. Apart from her film work, Vidya remains active on social media, delighting her fans with entertaining reels and videos.

Vidya Balan’s journey in Bollywood is truly inspiring. From navigating the challenges of low-budget shoots to winning over audiences and critics alike, she continues to leave a lasting impact on Indian cinema.
