It is a well-known fact that the farmers suffered this year due to lack of proper rains! But ativrishti, otherwise drought, why? The floods that ravaged Kerala a few years ago.. All this made Assistant Professor Lizzy Abraham think.
As a solution to this, she along with her students came up with a solution called WeSat – a professor at LBS Institute of Technology for Women’s College in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. The college has a space club which studies space exploration. Lizzie, who is the coordinator of this club, shared her thoughts with the students three years ago.
So.. WeSat was formed with the participation of 150 women. This satellite was recently successfully launched into orbit from Sriharikota by PSLV-258 launch vehicle. Its weight is 1.4 kg. It is also the first Indian satellite to be manned entirely by women. Named WESAT short for ‘Women Engineered Satellite’, the satellite is intended to study the effect of ultraviolet rays.
