1. AP Cabinet to Discuss Repeal of Land Grabbing Act and New Legislation
The AP Cabinet meeting, chaired by CM Chandrababu, is expected to make significant decisions, including the repeal of the 1982 Land Grabbing Act. The government has recognized challenges in enforcing this law, particularly with registering cases against land encroachers. Approximately 80% of complaints currently received involve land encroachments. In response, the AP government is preparing a new Land Grabbing Prohibition Bill-2024, aiming to strengthen the legal framework and improve the enforcement of land rights.
2. Polavaram Project and Saraswati Lands in Palnadu District
The ongoing Polavaram project and its future development are expected to be a focal point of the meeting. CM Chandrababu recently conducted a high-level review of the project’s progress with Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu and key officials. Additionally, the issue of the Saraswati lands in Palnadu district is likely to surface. Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan has raised concerns over land grabbing in the area, alleging that locals were coerced into giving up their lands. The AP Cabinet is expected to discuss the matter further and explore solutions.
3. BC Reservation in Nominated Posts
Another key issue to be discussed is the 34% reservation for BCs in nominated posts. The AP government is considering repealing the Allotment of Nominated Posts Act-2019, which was introduced during the YCP regime. In addition, discussions on increasing the sports quota in government jobs from 2% to 3% will take place, along with a proposal to raise the incentive for Olympic gold medalists to Rs. 7 crore.
4. Vision-2047 and New Policies
The cabinet is also expected to approve new policies, including the Vision-2047 plan, a new sports policy, and strategic policies for drones, semiconductor development, and data centers. These policies are intended to boost innovation and industrial growth in the state. Furthermore, there are discussions regarding the allocation of land for ArcelorMittal’s proposed steel plant, which aims to further industrial growth in Andhra Pradesh.
