In a move that honors the cultural heritage and sentiments of the Boya and Valmiki communities, Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh announced that the Andhra Pradesh government will officially celebrate Valmiki Jayanti as a state festival on October 17. This decision comes as a result of a promise Lokesh made during his Yuvagalam padayatra, where community members expressed their desire to see Valmiki Jayanti recognized at the state level.
The BC Welfare Department has issued orders for district centers across Andhra Pradesh to organize celebrations for Valmiki Jayanti, highlighting the importance of the revered sage Valmiki in local culture and history. Minister Lokesh, alongside BC Welfare Minister S. Savitha, will attend the celebrations in Anantapur to mark the occasion on a grand scale.
Minister Lokesh expressed his gratitude to the Boya and Valmiki communities for their active participation during the Yuvagalam padayatra. He emphasized that honoring Valmiki Jayanti as a state festival is a significant step towards recognizing the contributions and cultural heritage of these communities within Andhra Pradesh.
The celebrations will include various cultural programs, community events, and tributes to Maharishi Valmiki, who is considered the author of the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana. With this, the state government aims to foster unity and promote cultural appreciation among its citizens.
