The AP High Court has issued notifications to the AP legislature secretary general and the secretary of the Assembly Speaker, instructing them to submit responses regarding the issue of granting the Leader of Opposition (LOP) status to former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. A single-judge panel led by Justice Cheemalapati Ravi conducted a hearing on Tuesday in response to a petition filed by the former CM requesting the LoP status. During the hearing, Reddy’s attorney S. Sriram contended that the petitioner serves as the leader of the YSRC legislature party and insisted on his entitlement to the LoP status in the Assembly. Advocate general Dammalapati Srinivas contended that Jagan named the Speaker Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu and minister Payyavula Keshav as respondents in their personal capacities and dismissed the necessity for such actions. The court determined that a comprehensive hearing was necessary, given the absence of a request for an interim order. Following arguments from both sides, the court scheduled the next hearing in three weeks.
