The cost of pulasa ranges from 5K to 20K.
The marine Pulasa fish, which travels upstream from the sea towards the Dowleswaram barrage, is much anticipated by fish enthusiasts in the Godavari regions.
Sometimes referred to as Hilsa, it is primarily seen in Antarvedipalem, the area where the Godavari River flows into the sea, and close to Kotipalli in Yanam, from July to October.
Pulasa has an amazing flavor. During the season, several wealthy individuals spend lakhs of rupees preparing and delivering pulasa dish to VVIPs so they may finish their work.
For some families, serving Pulasa foods to guests or relatives is a status signal. According to fishermen, the fish has an odd habit of entering the Godavari River from the sea at a rapid pace against the tide.
But as soon as it enters a net, it perishes. To the extent that, according to a fisherman, nobody may have seen Pulasa alive other than when she was swimming in the river.
The fish passes by the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage as it swims upstream into the Godavari River. Fishing is mostly done a few kilometers downstream of the barrage by fishermen. When the fish moves upstream, it is said to be mature and pregnant. When cooked, the fish’s physical characteristics undergo a transformation that enhances its flavor. The weight of a pulasa can range from 0.5 kg to 1.5 kg or more. It might cost anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000.
Even though this fish is also found in other rivers, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district fisheries joint director N. Srinivasa Rao claims that the Pulasa found in the Godavari River is more popular. People in the Godavari districts are rumored to be willing to sell their possessions in order to have a feast with Pulasa.
