Bomb Threats in Tirupati: Tensions Rise in Temple City as Authorities Crack Down on Hoax Alerts

Tirupati, often hailed as the sacred “Temple City,” has transformed into a tense battleground as a string of bomb threats continues to alarm residents and visiting devotees. These threats, ranging from calls to hotels to emails directed at Tirupati Airport, have left citizens anxious, and authorities have been swift in their response to ensure public safety.

The unsettling events began when threatening phone calls were made to various hotels across the city, claiming that bombs had been planted. In response, local law enforcement conducted thorough sweeps of every hotel, confirming that the calls were false. However, this series of scares escalated when an anonymous email was sent to the Tirupati Airport Authority, stating that a bomb was allegedly planted on the premises.

Alarmed by this email, airport officials promptly lodged a complaint with the police, prompting the formation of specialized teams dedicated to tracking down the individual(s) responsible for these threats. In collaboration with the bomb squad and dog units, the authorities thoroughly checked temples, especially those along Katy Road, following another threat directed toward these places of worship.

In light of these repeated incidents, the District Collector has issued a mandate for regular inspections every two days in all hotels and public spaces across Tirupati. Security has been tightened, with added checkpoints on roads leading to Tirupati and the revered Tirumala.
