Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu officially endorsed an agreement on Wednesday for the solarisation of government buildings in collaboration with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN). Naidu emphasized the state government’s commitment to advancing solar rooftop systems in residential and governmental sectors through the PM Surya Ghar initiative. The aim is to transition government buildings in Andhra Pradesh to rely on solar energy for their power needs in an eco-friendly manner.
NVVN, a subsidiary of NTPC Ltd., has engaged with the state authorities to implement solar rooftop systems in government buildings. A memorandum of understanding was formalized between NVVN and NREDCAP in the presence of the Chief Minister and Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, along with other key officials.
The plan outlines the installation of 300 MW solar rooftop systems in government buildings as an initial phase. NVVN will be responsible for setting up these systems and providing electricity at a consistent tariff for 25 years. Additionally, NVVN will manage and maintain the systems at no cost during this period. This move is projected to result in significant savings for government departments on energy expenses.
The anticipated annual savings from implementing 300 MW solar rooftop systems in government buildings is estimated at 118.27 crore rupees. Over a span of 25 years, the total savings are projected to reach ₹2,957 crore. Furthermore, the installation of a 300 MW solar rooftop system is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 3.41 lakh metric tonnes annually or 85.25 lakh metric tonnes over the 25-year period.
