Visakhapatnam is witnessing a culinary revolution as cloud kitchens, also known as ghost or virtual kitchens, gain prominence. With around 15 such establishments now operational, these delivery-only kitchens are reshaping the city’s food service industry by adapting to evolving consumer behaviors post-pandemic.

A New Era of Dining

The pandemic-induced restrictions on dine-in services have left a lasting impact on the restaurant landscape. Many entrepreneurs, including groups of friends, housewives, and professionals, are embracing the cloud kitchen model to reduce operational costs while catering to the growing demand for home-delivered meals.

“Cloud kitchens have eliminated the need for dine-in facilities, significantly cutting expenses like rent, electricity, and interior design,” explained a local food entrepreneur.

Diverse Menus and Subscription Plans

From fast food options like pizzas and burgers to local favorites such as biryanis, vegetarian thalis, and healthy meal plans, cloud kitchens offer a variety of cuisines tailored to customer preferences. Monthly subscription plans at discounted rates are also gaining popularity, ensuring convenience and affordability.

Maintaining High Standards

Food safety remains a top priority for these kitchens. Food inspector Appa Rao highlighted,

“Nearly 99% of cloud kitchens in Visakhapatnam comply with FSSAI and fire safety regulations, which are mandatory for listing on online delivery platforms.”

Why Cloud Kitchens?

  • Cost Efficiency: Reduced operational costs allow these kitchens to focus on quality food and timely delivery.
  • Customer-Centric: They cater to the modern consumer’s need for convenience and variety.
  • Scalable Model: Entrepreneurs can experiment with different cuisines without the burden of running a traditional restaurant.

Cloud kitchens are not just a trend but a sustainable business model that aligns with the post-pandemic shift in consumer preferences. As Visakhapatnam’s culinary scene embraces this innovation, the city is set to enjoy a diverse and accessible dining experience.
