Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has taken decisive steps to ensure sand availability for all citizens, starting October 16, from 108 sand reaches across the state. In a recent review meeting with the mines department, Naidu emphasized that black marketing of sand must be eliminated. He underscored the importance of making sand accessible, with a focus on transparency and convenience.
According to officials, a total of 70 lakh metric tonnes of sand will be available through these reaches, with a daily supply capacity of approximately 80,000 metric tonnes. Currently, around 30,000 metric tonnes of sand are supplied each day, but with these additional reaches, an extra 80,000 metric tonnes will be added to the supply chain, effectively meeting the state’s growing demand.
To streamline the sand booking process, the Chief Minister has proposed the addition of direct booking facilities at the sand reaches, supplementing the existing online portal. This initiative aims to improve access for the public, simplifying the booking experience. Furthermore, the sand reaches will be managed by private agencies selected through a transparent tender process, overseen by district-level sand committees. These agencies will ensure efficient operations and accountability at each reach.
This move is part of the government’s broader effort to ensure essential resources like sand are accessible to all, without any scope for exploitation or black marketing. By addressing both supply and accessibility, the government is working to support ongoing construction and infrastructure projects across Andhra Pradesh.
