Chennai, December 19: A shocking incident occurred in broad daylight at the HDFC Private Bank branch on Burkitt Road, T. Nagar, Chennai, sending shockwaves through the city. A former bank employee, Satish, attacked his former colleague, Dinesh, with a knife, leaving him severely injured and spreading panic among the customers and staff present.

The incident unfolded around noon when Satish entered the bustling bank, posing as a customer. Without raising any suspicion, he approached Dinesh and suddenly pulled out a knife, launching an attack. In the scuffle, Dinesh sustained a severe ear injury and bled profusely. Customers and staff, initially paralyzed with shock, ran out in fear.

However, a group of courageous individuals managed to subdue Satish and handed him over to the police. His threatening words during the attack—“My life has been ruined because of you. I will not leave you alone”—revealed a deep-seated grudge against Dinesh.

The Motive Behind the Attack

Initial police investigations uncovered the motive behind the violent act. Satish, a former bank employee, and Dinesh had worked together at a private bank in the Nandanam area of Chennai. Two years ago, Satish was dismissed from his job following allegations of misconduct, and he blamed Dinesh for his termination.

The dismissal left Satish unemployed for over a year, fueling his resentment and desire for revenge. After painstakingly tracking Dinesh’s new workplace for two years, Satish finally located him at the T. Nagar branch. Having premeditated his attack, Satish purchased a knife from Kozhikode, Kerala, and traveled to Chennai by train to execute his plan.

Aftermath and Reactions

Following the attack, the HDFC Bank declared a holiday across all its branches in Chennai as a precautionary measure. Customers expressed shock at the breach of safety in a secure space like a bank. Authorities assured strict action against the accused, emphasizing the importance of maintaining security in public spaces.

The injured employee, Dinesh, is currently receiving medical treatment and is said to be in stable condition. The police are continuing their investigation into the case, ensuring that Satish faces justice for his actions.

This incident highlights the need for heightened security measures in banks and other public institutions to prevent such violent acts.
