Former President of the United States and Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, recently expressed admiration for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an appearance on the Flagrant podcast. Trump highlighted Modi’s significant role in stabilizing India and shared his positive impressions of the Indian leader.
“Modi is a good friend, a wonderful leader. Before he took office, India was facing instability, but his leadership brought a remarkable transformation,” Trump said. He also added that Modi is like a “father to the country,” pointing out his deep affection and commitment towards India’s progress.
Trump reminisced about the iconic Howdy Modi event held in September 2019 at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, where Prime Minister Modi addressed a crowd of nearly 80,000 Indian-Americans. Trump was the guest of honor at this event, which showcased the strong ties between India and the U.S. He described the experience as “crazy” and a great testament to the bond shared by the two nations. “It was a wonderful experience. The energy was electric, and it truly reflected the strength of the India-U.S. relationship,” Trump remarked.
Additionally, Trump spoke about the Namaste Trump event, which took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, during his presidency in February 2020. This event attracted over 100,000 attendees, making it one of the largest rallies organized by a U.S. President outside of America. He expressed his deep appreciation for the warmth and hospitality shown by Modi and the people of India during his visit, emphasizing the special relationship he shares with the Indian Prime Minister.
Donald Trump also touched upon India-Pakistan relations, underscoring Modi’s role as a significant player in maintaining regional stability. He reflected on his intention to meet with Modi during the Quad Summit to discuss pressing issues, although the meeting did not take place.
Trump’s glowing remarks come as he seeks to reclaim the presidency, and his praise for Modi highlights the continuity and importance of the India-U.S. relationship, particularly under strong leadership. This camaraderie between Modi and Trump reflects the respect and mutual admiration that the leaders have fostered over the years, underscoring the close ties between the two countries.
As Trump continues his campaign for the presidency, his positive remarks about Prime Minister Modi and his admiration for the India-U.S. relationship may resonate well with the Indian-American community, which has always played a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral ties.
